San Clemente was originally developed as a quaint Spanish-style town by Ole Hanson, around 1925. It become notable during former President Richard Nixon's era, who purchased one of the original coastal homes in 1969 and was known as "The Western White House." Now, San Clemente is an electric mix of Spanish-style homes, as well as traditional cottages and contemporary designs. The primary streets of Avenida del Mar and El Camino Real are home to a variety of restaurants and shops. Up in the hills, you'll find a mix of homes with coastal views. Inland, you'll find master-planned golf course communities like Talega which offer a variety of houses from condos to elegant estates. San Clemente also is famous for its surf beaches, including Trestles and San Onofre.
